When using Internet services for communication, you do not use regular telephone numbers, but you will use some form of address, identity or profile. But, interconnection and number portability are not arranged for Internet services. Large companies as Google, Skype and Facebook do not have to comply with telecommunications regulation. These companies can do as they like to bind their users to their services, by creating high exit barriers when changing to another provider for a similar service.
In this paper it is made clear that interoperability and portability can play an important role for various Internet services. The paper uses four archetype users to help explain this, called Adventure, Budget, Comfort and Durable.
